Fall of 2008 Merritt will play for
The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill

I called on Merritt a couple of months ago to help me do something special for a separate program of mine called Athletes Kickin' Cancer (www.AthletesKickinCancer.com).   I have known Merritt for several years and knew she would be happy to help. Our new Athlete of the Month
was Addison Sewell, a 14 year old soccer player who was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. Addison is not able to play with her team at the moment so Merritt was going to work with Addison, personally, and show her some special moves and tricks they use on her National Team. However, Addison has not been able to participate because of becoming so ill with her Chemo treatments and her white counts dropping dangerously low.  Merritt let her team know about Addison and they decided to make her an Honorary National Team

Member, give her a jersey, and will visit her as much as possible.  My heart was overflowing when I heard this news from Merritt. I commend her for taking matters into her own hands and making this happen for Addison.

I am proud to present our very first
Soccer Sisters
Athlete of the Month

Miss Merritt Mathias

Congratulations, Merritt!

Sincerely,

Patricia Lee, President

Merritt is also one of our Mentors on our Olympic Development Program page
